What is so special about men in our society that they can never be held accountable for their actions? I would like to examine this question by presenting two examples: Bill Cosby and “Dr.” Umar Johnson. Not that these men are particularly more special than any other black man in our community. But these two black men seem to be safe from all harm, critique, and negative words being placed upon them by their own communities.Read More
In browsing my timelines on Instagram, twitter and Facebook, I’m convinced….
You really don’t care about Black Women and Black Girls
Looking at my timeline hurt. It hurt me to see so many men I know in real life support and defend rapists, pedophiles and misogynists. I never thought I’d see the day when so many would justify such reprehensible actions. What’s even worse, it’s been a choir full of the strong and wrong with such reasoning that is rooted in ignorance, stereotypes and fake news.Read More
I realize that, as a people, African-Americans are moving in the “endangered species” zone. More than once a week, there is an announcement made about another death. Of another black brother. By the hands of another non-black man. With these types of deaths, it is paramount that the community of said person stands together in unity, if for no other reason than to stand in support of those who have lost a loved one. The unfortunate thing is...this is not the first time we, Americans, have been faced with racism, bigotry and pure hatred and disdain for one another. We have seen this same barrage of images before. However, unlike any other time in history, technology has made it almost impossible to escape the world wide terror that is erupting around the country. In order for us to traverse these rough waters ahead and come out with our sanity, there are a few things we MUST do:Read More
Women should be free to be whatever they choose without having their actions and bodies policed. Black Women in particular are constantly fetishized and hyper sexualized while being vilified at the same time. Who protects us?Read More
I’m so tired. I’m tired of justifying my value to black men. We are living in tumultuous times. Last week, it was Tyrese condemning black women, this week we learned a teenage girl was kidnapped and gang raped live on Facebook and there are several missing black girls in Washington DC right now that no one is talking about….TIRED!!!!Read More
