#SelfCareSunday: The Benefits of Bentonite Clay

I discovered Bentonite Clay when I was researching ways to restore my hair after heat damage but I learned that Bentonite clay has amazing benefits for your body.   Bentonite Clay is composed of ash made from volcanos.  It is a healing clay that cleanses and detoxes the body. It is also used to defend against illnesses as well.  Bentonite Clay helps to get rid of the toxins in your body, increase immunity and reduce inflammation.  The Clay has minerals that when ingested are absorbed into the body.  Bentonite Clay should never come into contact with Metal.  Only use glass, plastic or wood containers and/or utensils to mix the clay with water.

sHow to use:

A. Soothing and Healing Skin:  You can mix bentonite clay and water to form a paste and use on skin irritations like insect bites, skin irritations and burns.  Leave it on until it dries then wash it off.  It calms itching from eczema, Psoriasis, and chicken pox.

B.  Detoxification:   Detox the body, improve digestion and fight infections:  Combine ½ to 1 teaspoon in cup water. It will improve digestion and give you more energy. Some studies show bentonite may have antibacterial properties that could help fight infections

C. For Beautiful Skin:   I mix bentonite clay and water as use as a face mask. I leave on for 30 minutes then wash off at least once a week. If you mix bentonite clay with apple cider vinegar you can create a mask that helps with acne as well.  It tightens pores, eliminates oil, dirt and bacteria that causes breakouts.

D.  For Oral Health:  Because of its ability to bind to heavy metals and toxins you can use it during brushing or mixed with water as a alkalizing and toxin removing mouth rinses.

E.  Clarify the Hair:  Create a hair mask to remove buildup and oils.

F.  In Detox Baths:   I add about a half a cup of bentonite clay to my bath to detox and smooth my skin.
