Memorial Day weekend kicks off Summer in Chicago! There are plenty of events happening all around the city and surrounding suburbs to help you and your family enjoy the long holiday weekend! Here are a few of my faves!

May 27: Chicago Memorial Day Parade
The city will recognize fallen heroes at the annual wreath laying ceremony prior to the parade.

State Street from Lake Street to Van Buren;

Wreath Laying Ceremony begins at 11 a.m.

Parade begins at 12 p.m.  

Mole de Mayo Festival

The annual Mole de Mayo street festival in Pilsen celebrates the traditional Mexican sauce with a cook-off, an open-air market and Lucha Libre wrestling.

Belmont-Sheffield Music Festival

This fest has been around for 30-plus years and features sets from local cover bands as well as food vendors from around the area.

Price: $5 donation

Hours: Noon-10 p.m. 

Sunday, May 29th, Bike the Drive

Riders participating in Chicago's annual Bike the Drive event roll down LSD in the morning hours on Sunday when the iconic roadway is closed to motorized traffic.  Enjoy the five-hour, car-free ride while you take in the views of the city and the lake.

Synchronized to the music of the Rolling Stones

Chicago is the birthplace of house music, and throughout the day, DJ’s and performers will showcase the various sounds of house music, that has gone on to revolutionize dance music internationally. Music will be at both the Jay Pritzker Pavilion and the North Chase Promenade Tent.
