Aromatherapy is the practice of using natural oils to enhance psychological and physical well-being.   The aroma of essential oils is widely believed to improve brain function and when absorbed through the skin and bloodstream, they can promote whole body healing.  It’s a form of alternative medicine that works for pain relief, mood enhancement and increased memory.  Our sense of smell is a powerful thing.  Essential oils can purify the air, dispel odors, relax the mind and body, enhance your immune system, clear your mind and bring oxygen to the brain, improving memory and health.  An easy way to enjoy the benefits of essential oils is by using a diffuser.  Diffusing disperses oils into the air around you so you can inhale them as you go about your day.  They are a great way to relieve tension and create a peaceful and serene atmosphere in your home or even your job.  According to some researchers, diffusing can release unpleasant memories and experiences and lock in positive memories.  Oils are effective at enhancing moods and uplifting spirits. 


Essential oils increase the body’s ability to transport oxygen into cells and increase oxygen in the atmosphere.   The structure of essential oils allows them to penetrate the cell membranes of the nose and enter the bloodstream.  The oils can help transport oxygen and nutrients to the cells once in the bloodstream.  Other benefits of Oil Diffusing with Essential oils include:

  • Helps with concentration: some oils improve concentration and mental clarity. 
  • Air purifier:  Essential oils reduce bacteria, fungus, mold and unpleasant odors
  • Relax the body, relive tensions and clear the mind

To diffuse essential oils you need a diffuser and a blend of essential oils.   There are several types of diffusers. These are a few of my favorites. They are long lasting and they look good in your personal space.

Oil Diffusers for the Home.  I currently have one in my bedroom as that is my "sacred space".

Portable Oil Diffusers are perfect to have in your office space, your car or even to wear!

Depending on the type of diffuser you have and the oil recipe, you will typically need 10-15 drops of essential oils.  Leave on for 15-30 minutes a day throughout the day every hour.   When purchasing essential oils, be sure to purchase only products labeled with 100% pure essential oil.   Products labeled as fragrance oils, perfume oils and natural fragrances typically contain synthetic chemicals and can be toxic.

I primarily use mind at night and on weekends.  Each essential oil has their own healing properties and some can be mixed to serve multiple functions.  There are different oils you can use depending on what effect you are trying to achieve.
