Not everyone is okay with living like an open wound. But the thing about open wounds is that, well, you aren’t ignoring it. You’re healing; the fresh air can get to it. It’s honest. You aren’t hiding who you are. You aren’t rotting”.-Warsan Shire

I choose “Heal” as my word for 2017.  As I reflected on the year 2017, healing was the one thing I wanted most.  The last half of 2016 was interesting in that it forced me to stop, slow down and really start to analyze relationships, situations and areas in my life.  I wrote them all down and decided to tackle them one by one with the intention of purging my spirit of negative feelings and emotions and finding peace and healing in the areas in my life that have caused me stress, trauma and pain.  It was time to get rid of some stuff, some baggage and dead weight that I’ve been carrying around for too long.  I could literally feel the burden of the weight I was carrying.   Sometimes life puts you in a holding pattern to teach you something before you progress to the next level.  I have so many future plans and goals but I feel like in order to advance to this next phase in my life I have to be prepared to leave some things behind.  Quite honestly, it’s time to let some things go in order to fly. I’m ready

to take flight!

So over the next few days, I’ll be writing exclusively about healing and steps we can take to purge our spirits of anything that has wounded us over the years.  This series is collaborative and I hope you decide to take this journey with me.   My prayer is that we can share our stories and heal together.  I am a firm believer in the power of telling your own truth.  Telling your stories truthfully doesn’t just help heal yourself but your story can help heal others.    This blog is a safe space where I hope we can help one another.
